I frequently have the opportunity to speak with aspiring teachers, and I try to share some advice about the hiring process. Trying to land that first teaching position can be a difficult and grueling process. I don’t know of many people who are able to share amazing stories about their first ever interview.
If offered a choice, my best advice is to take the earliest possible interview time. I know this may not seem like a big deal, but I can assure you that it is. If given the choice between an AM interview and a PM interview, always choose the morning. After sitting through interviews and demo lessons over the past two days, I can assure you that I’m at my most capable of interviewing and viewing earlier in the day. I’m fresh. I’m ready to be impressed. And by the tenth or eleventh candidate of the day, I feel like I’ve heard the same answers six or seven times already.
So, if given the choice, take the earliest time. And good luck on your hiring adventure!
