Teaching can be a funny thing.
You’ll prepare and over prepare.
You’ll spend hours on the lesson plan, the activities, and the assessments.
You’ll sit with the student with scripted questions and designed prompts.
And of course, the real breakthrough happens when the student asks a simple question you didn’t see coming.
True learning often happens off script.
It’s not always the anticipated response that causes a shift.
It’s the unexpected comment or question. It always forces both student and teacher to think deeper.
Let it happen. Build in time for those impromptu conversations. Go off script, lean into the detour, and encourage deeper thinking.
It’s how true learning really happens.
