Best Effort Block

After an inconsistent experience last school year, I’m seeing many students struggle to adjust to life back in the classroom.

Many students are struggling with stamina and staying power. It’s hard for kids to concentrate for extended periods of time.

While you may be facing stamina issues with your students this year, the answer is the 7-10 minute best effort block.

The goal is to ask students not to do too much.

Set a timer. Explain to students the goal to put in their best effort for no more than ten minutes.

Focus first, then allow for a short brain break.

See what students can accomplish in the short time frame.

Make it a regular part of your schedule, and show students that productivity doesn’t have to take a long time.

The answer is the 7-10 minute best effort block.
