Managing People

Managing people can be incredibly difficult. People have emotions, strengths, wants, needs, and weaknesses. You have to know those you are managing and understand what it is that makes each person tick.

I find that there are certain things that I can do as a manager to support co-workers to the best of my ability.

I’ve had the most success in employing the following:

understanding, latitude, guidance, and feedback.

When I know and understand my colleagues, I can help support them in what they need.

If I can provide a little bit of runway for co-workers, I find that they are more likely to put forth their best effort.

When I also provide guidance, and meaningful feedback, I find that my colleagues want to improve even more.

Managing people can be incredibly difficult. But it doesn’t have to be.
