Institutional Complacency

We are suffering from Institutional Complacency.

Some may feel as if their work to constantly push education is on point while others may be subpar. It is the acceptance of the subpar that allows us to be complacent.

“I’m doing my part. If only others would move forward like me. Oh well. I can’t force them…”

Our system not only allows the complacency but supports it in many ways.

It allows people to stagnate, find comfort, and settle for mediocrity.

Doors close. Decades-old practices continue. Educators never even consider the validity of something new because it is a “fad.”

“I don’t need to do this because it will come and go just like everything else has. Education is cyclical.”

Those in the front struggle to create seismic shifts, and sometimes, even tiny ripples. Our system forces them to pull back or slow down.

And yet, the outside world continues to evolve, moving forward at a pace unmatched in history.

And we, the educators, stand at a crossroad, needing to evolve in order to catch up to everything else.

So I implore all of you to move forward…

Move beyond…

Change your world by changing your worldview…

Get going…

In a hurry…

Make it better than what you’ve always done…

We stand at a crossroads, with a tremendous opportunity…

To stop the complacency and…

Start our evolution as educators and learners…

Before it’s too late for our students.
