The first day of school receives all the fanfare and glory but it’s not where the real work is done.
The excitement of new clothes and new faces gives way to the serious matter of building a community of learners.
The second day and beyond is when we need to get down to what really matters: modeling expectations and continuously showing students how to learn on their own.
Start by helping them learn how to learn. Give them everything they need, then step to the side and be ready to offer support, feedback, and guidance when needed.
Today, the real work begins. Get to it.
