What He Said

My morning did not go so well.

From the moment I walked in, I was besieged with complaints, students having difficulty, phone calls I needed to return, and several “level 10” emergencies that required my attention.

Two and a half hours later, I needed a break. So I did what any stressed out educator would do. I went and visited a third grade classroom. I stayed for just a few minutes. As the class was lining up, one student walked over to me.

What he said completely changed my day.

What he said completely changed my perspective.

What he said completely changed my attitude.

“Mr. Czyz, how was your morning?”

As he asked, I wasn’t sure how to respond.

What he said was so simple, but he followed it with a gesture that even now means so much to me.

He reached out and gave me a hug. When he did, I simply melted, and all of my stress was released in that moment.

And I knew exactly how to answer him.

“My morning was great.”

Because now it was.

Thank you Tyler.
