Open. Smile. Repeat.

I look up to the sky and exhale. I am able to see my breath as it rises to the heavens. The early year has not been kind so far with regard to temperature. I spend a few extra minutes to find my warmest hat and gloves. While others are available, the time seems well spent. I step off the curb to open the first door. I am greeted with two smiles. These two children are usually the first to arrive each morning. The simple act of a smile from them means more than they realize. One by one, cars continue to pull around the circle.

Open. Smile. Repeat.

Both parents and students seem happy that I am there. I am more happy to be there than they realize. It is one of the most important parts of my day. After all, sometimes just showing up is what matters most.
