As a classroom teacher, and now as an administrator, I have always believed in “High Expectations, High Support.” I believe that students (and educators) can rise to meet the occasion when provided with the right kind of supports.
It is important to clearly define expectations, so that learners know exactly what is expected of them. We can work with learners to develop goals that align to expectations. We have to realize though that all learners do not accomplish their goals at the same pace. Some may need very specific supports in order to meet the expectations.
So remember, hold learners to high expectations. But be sure to also provide the right levels of support.
