Humans are social beings. Many of us thrive on interaction. When I have the chance to observe in classrooms, the best part of the lesson is usually when students are engaged in deep discussion.
For many of our students, these deep discussions can be reserved for times outside of our normal classroom lessons. Maybe there’s deep discussion during lunch or recess, but that’s it.
Maybe we need to build in time for deep discussion. How about a scheduled discussion break within our daily schedule? Give students 5-10 minutes and a topic to dive deep. Let them discuss, share, debate, and converse. Let students invest in discussion for the sake of learning.
What are you waiting for? Try a discussion break today.
