Leading with one’s chin refers to a boxer leaving his or her chin wide open and unprotected. It is considered a risk because it exposes the boxer.
Leading with the chin can be seen as a negative for a boxer. Some lay criticism on the way it exposes vulnerability.
We often criticize educators who lead with their chin. We find fault with the open vulnerability and honesty when we don’t agree with the message being presented.
But those who lead with their chin realize something everyone else doesn’t. The greater the risk that you take when putting yourself out there, the greater the reward when you find success.
So, go ahead, lead with your chin.
