It’s the first day of school, and everyone is at their shiny, happy best.
Everyone is trying to impress. Students, teachers, parents, administrators.
More important than the team building tasks or get to know you activities or the spotless, clean school is the work that is done to make all students feel safe.
If we want them running back on Day 2, we need them to feel safe.
And that starts with authenticity.
Show students that it’s not about our shiny, happy best. It’s more about our real, authentic selves. Show them that you care, give them what they need, and support them in whatever way is necessary.
And most of all, mean it.
