Throughout my entire life, my name has been pronounced wrong. There have been a number of variations, and the age old Wheel of Fortune joke that I have heard way too many times: Someone should buy you a vowel.
Maybe because of this, I recognize the importance of names. Calling a student by name, and pronouncing it correctly is important. It shows that you care about that individual student, enough to take the time to know and pronounce his or her name correctly.
And for all of those who constantly wonder or are gracious enough to ask…
It’s pronounced Chiz.
