Last week, I had the chance to moderate the #MSAAChat (Massachusetts Administrators Association) on Twitter. The discussion centered around shifting Professional Development and Professional Learning practices, and the participants certainly brought some meaningful and relevant ideas. Here are 10 PD ideas that stood out:
A3) Try a walking staff meeting. Present topics that colleagues walk and talk about. Then shift walking partners. #MSAAchat https://t.co/H0gS9f4l90

A2: I asked teachers in January what was "on their plates" so that we could use faculty meeting time to lift some things off their plates. Important to listen and hten follow through. #msaachat #4OCF pic.twitter.com/r8pT9ds0LP

A4: Our district developed TRADE TIME. PL sessions are offered outside of school hrs. Teachers sign up to attend sessions (or can get a limited # of hrs via Twitter chats, Podcasts, etc.) Hours earned can be traded in for the last inservice day. Helps to embed learning #MSAAChat

A3: I keep my staff meetings to 15 minutes. I have tried to incorporate some of the Tech Tools that I have introduced to staff in those meetings. I use my Week Ahead on Smore to get information to the staff on Fridays. #MSAAChat

A3: I am planning on getting rid of staff meetings next year. All Ts will have an hour a month to learn on their own. Going rogue! #MSAAChat

We’re doing a Teacher Choice Book Study. I put out 10 titles & they chose which one they want to read, then we are going to jigsaw different ideas learned from each. #MSAAchat https://t.co/ixRAiLmDZ9

A6 Thinking we need to host more "book tasting" events rather than just choosing books for staff. Let them decide what interests them! #MSAAchat #4OCF https://t.co/QY6YHaDZVT

A4: We have an extended Common Planning Time every week for our staff where our Specialists take over classrooms during arrival and breakfast adding on an extra 25 minutes that we can use for PD. We rotate ELA, Math, Admin, and Lesson Planning. #MSAAChat

A4: I use boomerang to write & pre-sched emails and also use tweet deck. Having flexibility with time I. Some ways frees up time for other things like learning/PD when it is happening. #MSAAChat #4Ocf
