I recently had to look up a specific language arts standard for a specific grade level.
While I was navigating the website, I had to search my way through more than 1,200 standards that we, as educators, are expected to make sure that students master.
It is no wonder that we feel as if there are never enough hours in the day.
Seems like there might be about 1,200 more standards than we actually need.
As I see it, here are the standards that we should be focusing on:
- Communicate ideas clearly.
- Research and find valid information.
- Create something meaningful to share with the world.
- Solve interesting problems.
- Lead.
That’s it.
If we make sure that students master these five standards, we will be successful as educators.
