As I was watching couple of game 7’s in the NBA playoffs last week, I was reminded of the phrase survive and advance.
Lose in a game seven and your summer starts much earlier than those still competing for the championship.
In a game seven, all rules go out the window. You sometimes have to throw things against the wall to see if they stick. It’s a matter of finding something that will work in order to get you to that next game. It’s a matter of survival.
Survive the game and advance to the next round. And if you survive enough, no one else is left standing and you are the champion.
It kind of reminds me of the end of the school year. Fatigue sets in. It’s been a long year. You’ve experienced a number of high and lows, and at this point, you might be exhausted.
You have to find a way to keep yourself motivated and to take advantage of your time left with students. You may have to try something new or different to keep everyone from getting restless (including yourself)!
You might need to introduce a new project based learning opportunity or community action project in order to better engage students.
Survival, in this case, means more learning opportunities for everyone.
Press on. Make the most of the time remaining.
