Why Benjamin Franklin, America’s Original Productivity Guru, would have loved Autopilot

Why Benjamin Franklin, America’s Original Productivity Guru, would have loved Autopilot

I’m convinced that if Benjamin Franklin were alive today, he would be a huge fan of Autopilot: Practical Productivity for School Leaders.

Of course, we’ll never know for sure, but as America’s original productivity guru, he set the standard for the rest of us. The core concepts of Autopilot align so perfectly with Mr. Franklin’s entire philosophy that it’s easy to imagine what he would have thought.

Here’s why he would have loved it:

  • It’s all about systems. Benjamin Franklin engineered systems for improvement. He wanted to ensure that his most important work could get done no matter the distraction. Autopilot works the same way, helping you to build systems to get your most important work done.
  • It helps us value our time. Franklin famously said, “Do not squander time, for that’s the stuff life is made of.” Autopilot allows educators to stop squandering their time and energy on trivial tasks when they can invest in what truly matters.
  • It’s practical. What I love about Franklin, and what I think he would love about the book is that it proposes practical solutions. He invented a variety of products and strategies to solve everyday problems. Autopilot isn’t just theory. It’s Practical Productivity for School Leaders. It’s stuff that works.
  • It creates clarity from chaos. Again, another Franklin quote works here: “Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time.” Each day contains multiple fires, constant interruptions, and competing priorities. Benjamin Franklin would have seen Autopilot as the ultimate guide to establishing “Order” in one of the most demanding jobs in society. Autopilot is ultimately a way to organize your time, energy, and focus!

So, knowing that he would have loved the book, I am glad to share the ringing endorsement for Autopilot that I imagine Benjamin Franklin would have shared:

Autopilot navigates the mundane, freeing the leader’s mind to chart a course for greatness.

An ounce of effort outweighs a pound of scattered tasks.
