Effective Communication: Moving Beyond Writing

Writing, for decades, has been our primary means of communication. However, as digital platforms become more readily available and easier to use, the ways that students can effectively present and share their ideas will do nothing but increase. These platforms enable students to present ideas more multimodally. Arguably, presenting ideas in multi-modal formats isn’t just an option, it’s a must. The information highway is a crowded place. If students want their ideas to be noticed, they are going to have to understand how to present their ideas in unique and creative ways. This means that skills like acting, filming, animation, graphic design, songwriting become increasingly valuable because they expand the possibility of how ideas can be communicated. This makes the arts increasingly important and valuable.
