Perhaps
it is our most
challenging students
who are giving us the most.
Perhaps they are giving us
honesty;
honest emotion,
an honest view at
their true selves.
Perhaps they are giving us
a peak at a reality
that’s different than our own.
Perhaps they are also
giving us opportunity.
An opportunity to grow.
An opportunity to become better.
An opportunity to change our thinking
and our teaching. An opportunity to
question the old
and an opportunity to
try something new.
Perhaps
in figuring out how to give
these students an opportunity
to learn, it is also us
who is being given
an opportunity to learn.
Perhaps this is idealistic thinking,
or perhaps it’s not.
Perhaps it’s our choice.
