Start with Productive-ish

You feel like you could be more productive. You also feel swamped and overwhelmed on a regular basis. Our jobs as school leaders are hard. They are complex, and there’s a lot to do. If it’s not the repetitive administrivia that sucks up our time each day, it’s the seventeen fires that pop up and need immediate attention.

You may have said it aloud before. I know I say it to no one in general all the time. There has to be a better way. I’m not supposed to lose it trying to do this job. I’m not supposed to be overwhelmed and I’m not supposed to be burned out. There has to be a better way.

My new book, Autopilot: Practical Productivity for School Leaders, will give you some starting strategies and techniques to help you become more efficient. But it really starts with a commitment to be more effective in your role. You need to just start with productive-ish.

You don’t have to go from zero to sixty. You don’t need to adopt every technique or system in the book. You simply need to take a look at how you spend your time and begin with some slight changes.

Do you feel like some of your tasks take too long?

Do you feel like some of your work could be delegated to others?

Do you feel like your days are spent reacting instead of being proactive?

Do you feel like your days are constantly putting out fires, assuming everyone else’s emergencies?

Do you feel like there has to be a better way?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you may need to start with productive-ish. The best way to start is to pick up a copy of Autopilot today. Spend your days getting prepared to be more productive.

Ish.
