Perfect Teaching

To me,

perfect teaching

is not

writing

the perfect lesson plan

or

following the program

to a T.

And it’s

certainly not

one checking

the boxes off

of a rubric

not originally

designed

to evaluate

my teaching.

No, to me

perfect teaching

is

providing

opportunities

for my students

to make meaning

and to make

meaningful work.

It’s not

always pretty

and it doesn’t always

work but

I know

when I give my students

these opportunities,

and when I reflect

on how to improve

these opportunities,

to make these opportunities

more meaningful

and to help to make

these opportunities

produce

more meaningful work

then, and only then

am I

teaching perfectly.
